Korea Oceanographic Data CenterINTRODUCTION OF KODC

Data Policy

KODC is committed to the satisfaction of service users through the provision of marine scientific data and information of the highest quality. In addition, through data and information services, we seek public interests such as promoting marine scientific research, preventing marine and fisheries disasters, and contributing to the development of marine industries and fisheries.

KODC allows access to a variety of data. The data here includes "ocean observation data" and "processed or indirectly obtained information based on the data". The ocean observation data refers to scientifically quantified values of the ocean, obtained through scientific techniques or instruments based on such techniques. Currently, KODC provides in-situ observation data using vessels, coastal stationary observation data, buoy observation data, and satellite observation data, and the kinds of observation data can be increased according to the development of observation technology in the future.

To the extent permitted by law of the Republic of Korea, KODC follows the IOC Oceanographic Data Exchange Policy and ensures that the archived data are fully and publicly available. In addition, we respect the restrictions by data producers and/or providers, related to the distribution of data. The data users need to disclose the source of data used in the products, websites, publications, etc.

KODC website provides the data in text (ASCII) and Excel formats that are widely used by the general public. New popular file formats like netCDF will continue to be added in the near future.

KODC will take all necessary measures to ensure safety of all data at the site, and the reliability of the site‘s services, and to protect it from abuse.
