Transition to the digitalization of research data for openness

NIFS announced that its 1,417 modern and contemporary research results - including films, brochure, etc. - will be transitted to the digital data for easy accessibility and provided to the public on the official website. (http://nifs.go.kr, http://nifs.go.kr/library

The digitalized 1,417 data consist of literature data(252) including the Annual Report on Marine Environment Monitoring as the National Scientific Heritage(1952~2015, 62) and NIFS journal of fisheries and science (1961~2001, 91); film data(909) on marine life, history of research on oceans and fisheries, and experimental survey on fisheries; three-dimensional image data(256) on the skull and skeleton specimen of 18 whales including melon-headed whale, Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphin, etc. 

The copyrighted public records digitalized this time is KOGL Type 1 (Source Indication). According to KOGL, user can use public works freely and without fee regardless of its commercial use, and can change or modify to create secondary works when user complies with the term of source indication. 

As a part of the '2023 public works digitalization project' supported by the Korea Culture Information Service Agency, the project to digitalize the historical data from modern and contemporary research on oceans and fisheries science was completed in the first half of this year. The project aimed to help the people to have easy access to the research achievements belonging to the NIFS.
