NIFS announced that it signed MOU with Gyeongsangnam-do fisheries resource research and development institute; Gyeongsangnam-do Fisheries Technology and Safety Research Institute; and Geoje-si for addressing marine environment degradation of southern coast of Korea and aquaculture damages at Geoje City Hall on Wednesday, May 21.

The MOU aimed to conserve fisheries resources under climate change and to promote sustainable aquaculture industry. It is mainly about research on climate change response and development of aquaculture techniques, monitoring of marine environment in southeastern coast of Korea and joint use of the data, other matters agreed necessary by each institution, etc.

In addition, the four institutions will drive joint research, pilot program, and technology transfer by organizing regular working groups, while forging a closer partnership to extend research achievements into field application.

Particularly, the Southeast Sea Fisheries Research Institute of NIFS will focus on R&Ds on aquaculture species in preparation for climate change including high and low water temperature. The institute is also going to disseminate practical technologies to the sites by establishing systems for marine environment prediction and real-time monitoring.
