NIFS announced its establishment of global standard process for histamine control designed for the Dongwon F&B canned tuna factories located in South Korea (Changwon), the Independent State of Samoa, the Republic of Ecuador, and the Republic of Senegal. As excessive intake of histamine can cause allergic symptoms, food poisoning, etc., recent regulatory updates have strengthened the practical application of global histamine standards for fisheries products. Against this backdrop, canned tuna factories had been required to take on the stricter sanitary control and establish the standard process. *The limit of histamine is 50mg/kg in U.S., 100mg/kg in EU and Japan, and 200mg/kg in South Korea and Codex Alimentarius Commission NIFS conducted a survey on the amount of histamine occurring in each process of manufacturing Dongwon canned tunna. Building on the result, it made proposals for advanced standard of sanitary and process control, then drawing up the critical control points (CCP) for histamine. The CEO Kim, Sung-yong of Dongwon F&B said, “We will gradually expand the application of this standard for histamine control to our manufacturing factories in and outside the country. Also, the continuous mutual R&D partnership between Dongwon F&B and NIFS is expected to raise the level of canned tuna quality and food safety control.” The Director General Mok, Jong-soo of the Ocean Climate and Environment Research Department of NIFS said, “NIFS will keep focusing on preemptively addressing the difficulties in the field while stepping up its efforts to boost the safety and quality competitiveness of fisheries products.” |
