NIFS announced that an AI-based diagnosis system Jindan-hae() was offered for olive flounder parasitic disease diagnosis, which is the improved version of existing system.

The Jindan-hae(), the upgraded version of an existing AI-based diagnostic system Miri-bom developed in 2023, features higher accuracy and field applicability built on the advancement of Miri-bom including improved system service environment.

Speaking of the model for emaciation disease diagnosis, particularly, it engineered to refine the system by combining the images of cultured olive flounder with appearance-based data such as body length, slope, etc. Moreover, by controlling diagnostic errors through field validation and users’ feedback, the model raised the accuracy to 96% from 90%.

Also, the diagnostic system Jindan-hae() has been overhauled with user interface optimized for smartphone and PC and its accessibility has been improved so that people can use it easily just by accessing ‘Smart Fish Doctor, SFiD*’ or scanning a QR code.

*SFiD is NIFS’s aquatic animal diseases information sharing platform which can be used with PC or mobile access (www.nifs.go.kr/sfid)

The president Kwon Soon-wook of NIFS said, “There has been the global trends in aquaculture health management to adopt smart technologies. Following the trend of times, NIFS will strengthen R&Ds on aquaculture disease management by utilizing Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital technologies.”

*"Jindan-hae" means "Do diagnose", but there is a wordplay on homophones. "Jindan" in Korean means "Diagnosis" in English and "Hae (-)" means "Do something". But "Hae" can also mean a Chinese character " (Sea)" due to their same pronunciation in Korean. Therefore, "Jindan-hae" can be interpreted as either "Do diagnose." or "Diagnose seas."
