On April 9 (Thursday), NIFS held a workshop for the final project presentation on research and training fisheries 2025, sharing the achievements of fisheries technology dissemination projects. 

In the workshop attended by around 50 people from the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF), the National Institute of Fisheries Science (NIFS), local governments, etc., the seven completed projects out of research and training fisheries conducted by local promotion agencies for fisheries industry were assessed, followed by the awards for outstanding projects. 

Best Award (MOF Minister’s Award) went to the Yeonggwang branch of Jeollanamdo Institute of Ocean & Fisheries Science for the development of aquaculture technology for new large yellow croaker varieties.

The Jeollabuk-do fisheries products safety center and the Gyeongsangnam-do Fisheries Technology and Safety Research Institute won Excellence Award (NIFS President’s Award) for selection of superior Pyropia varieties in the west coast and development of formulated feed supply technology for cage-farmed red seabream, respectively. 

Research and training fisheries are the project for the development of region-specific fisheries technology and field application, which 16 institutions in local governments have conducted their own 18 tasks. For the settlement of transparent and fair research culture, NIFS is responsible for the selection and management of the project. 

NIFS president Kwon Soon-wook said, “I hope the workshop to set the stage for the promotion of the outstanding outcomes drawn up this time to spread into the field. Going forward, NIFS will reinforce its field-centered research, ensuring the research outcomes to deliver practical help to the fishermen.”
