NIFS announced that it will release a “Guide for the design and construction of inland aquafarms : Olive flounder and starry flounder” and distribute the guide to fishermen in struggle with following the complex building permit procedures with insufficient information required. In the meantime, fishermen have experienced hard time and financial difficulties in carrying out new aquafarm building or renovation due to the complex administrative procedures and insufficient expertise. In consideration of the difficulties in the field, the guidebook is systematically well categorized into △choosing land, △administrative procedures for permit, △basic design and construction drawings, △facility maintenance, etc., which are necessary for aquafarm-setup and operation. Additionally, NIFS seeks to get the “Basic design and construction drawings for inland aquafarms : Olive flounder and starry flounder”, released by NIFS last year, approved from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) as standard design drawings. If the approval is granted, the pace of implementation in permit processing will be expedited as the paperwork is streamlined, and the time and expense will be saved by utilizing completed drawings. The “Guide for the design and construction of inland aquafarms : Olive flounder and starry flounder” will be distributed to the fisheries-related government agencies, local governments, etc. Also, the guide will be available on the website(www.nifs.go.kr) for the public access. “The lack of reference to speak of for constructing aquaculture facilities was one of factors making aquaculture farmers feel burdened. I hope the guide and design drawings to lay the foundation for standardized aquafarms and deliver practical help to aquaculture households,” said Kwon Soon-wook, President of NIFS.
