On November 17th, the National Institute of Fisheries Science(NIFS) signed MOU on technical cooperation in the field of fisheries science with Nako Natuman, minister of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, Forestry & Biosecurity of Vanuatu. NIFS also had a working-level consultations with experts by sector and on-site surveys followed.
During the visit, the President WOO, Dong-sik of NIFS asked the government of Vanuatu to support Korea's bid to host the World Expo 2030 in Busan.
As a part of ODA projects in oceans and fisheries, NIFS signed the IA between the Coordinating Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Investment (CMMAI) of the Republic of Indonesia and the National Institute of Fisheries Science (NIFS) of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries of the Republic of Korea on the ODA project of "Smart Technological Support to Improve Aquaculture Productivity in Indonesia".
With the attendance of 2023 newly employed researchers, NIFS hosted 「Junior Board」 on October 27th, the forum for open and direct communication with new researchers to support their adaptation to the organizational culture and improve their capabilities.
On October 17th, NIFS signed an agreement with the producers of fertilized eggs of King-flounder to transfer the Exclusive License for King-flounder (faster than the common one in growth). Also, NIFS had the ceremonty to present the Signboard to the private producers at the meeting.
On October 17th, NIFS hosted the Kick-Off meeting with the establishment of Task Force(TF) to respond to the flounder mass mortality. Aiming to provide the solutions required at the site, they decided that the TF team will identify and pursue the site-oriented R&D.
At the Parliament House on September 25th, NIFS had a MOU signing ceremony with relevant institutes or organizations for the mutual cooperation to design and develop the standards of inland aquafarms. At the meeting, they agreed to cooperate for the research on standardization of aquaculture facility.
On September 19th, President WOO, Dong-sik of NIFS attended the "2023 International Conference on Fishing Communities (ICFC 2023)" under the theme of "One Ocean, One Fishing Community", seeking cooperation around the world to solve the problem of fishing communities.
NIFS signed MOU with the Pulmuone Institute of Technology for the advanced seafood indsutry through mutual cooperation and exchanges of information and professionals.
The National Institute of Fisheries Science (President WOO, Dong-sik) held "the Extended Scientific Committee of the 28th Meeting of the Scientific Committee", the 28th scientific committee of Commission for the Conservation of Southern Bluefin Tuna (CCSBT), in Jeju Island, on August 28 - September 1.
At the meeting, recommendations for the management of the next fishing quota (2024-2026) were established.
