On May 10th, Prof. Ocky Karna Radjasa, the chairman of Research Organization of Earth Sciences in Indonesia, met the president of NIFS and discussed ways for mutual cooperation in the research of oceans and fisheries science, then looking around the research facilities of NIFS.
On May 8th, NIFS and Korea Research Institute of Ships and Ocean engineering (KRISO) signed a MOU to strengthen the mutual cooperation and further develop oceans and fisheries science & technology, and discussed ways for the joint research.
The first duty council took place at the NIFS headquarters on May 2nd, with the participation of the presidents of national research institutes in the field of agricultural, fisheries, and food. At the council, the presidents discussed the ways for the collaborative research based on the expertise of each institute.
During the period of April 27-29, NIFS participated in the "Seoul International Seafood Show 2023" and exhibited the recent achievements in its research at the promotion booth.
NIFS held a ceremony to mark the 74th anniversary of the establishment of NIFS with all employees and former Presidents attended at its headquaters. To become the world's leading research institute, NIFS plans to prepare a new leap forward through its reorganization focusing on research.
On April 7th, 2023, NIFS hosted the International Symposium for the development of seaweed industry in Korea and global cooperations at the National Assembly, establishing the foundation for the purpose.
On April 3rd–4th, 2023, the President WOO, Dong-sik visited Goseong-gun, Yangyang-gun, and the East Sea Fisheries Research Institute in Gangneung-si of Gangwon Province to inspect the current status of smart fish farm for salmon, and had a discussion with local governments and the industries for closer cooperation. The President also inspected pollack resources on board fishing vessel at Daejin port.
NIFS hosted "Marine Fisheries R&D achievement sharing event" on March 29 - 30, 2023 in BEXCO, Busan with the stakeholders of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, local governments and relevant organizations, academia to promote fisheries science innovation and make a breakthrough in times of global crisis.
To prepare for FDA's sanitary survey scheduled in April, NIFS conducted site inspections over the laboratory of the Southeast Sea Fisheries Research Institute (SESFRI) in charge of sanitary inspections on the sea area designated for the shellfish production for export in Geoje-si and Tongyeong-si, Gyeongnam Province.
On March 21st, for the second year in a row, the National Institute of Fisheries Science (NIFS) and the Korea Maritime Institute (KMI) had a consultative meeting with the researchers from both institutes to report joint - research outcomes and discuss the ways to identify new tasks.
