On September 3, Mr. Choi Yong-seok, the president of NIFS, hit the road to check the current status of HWT damages to the yellow croaker farms in Jeju Island.  While conduting the inspection, the president heard the difficulties in the field from the farmers. He also visited the Subtropical Fisheries Research Institute to keep up with the research in progress.

The President of NIFS (Mr. Choi Yong-seok) visited the jellyfish collection sites and land-based aquafarms in Pohang, inspecting how the fishermen dealt with the situation and having a meeting with them to hear the difficulties in the field.

On August 14, NIFS visited two rainbow trout farms to inspect the preparation for high water temperature (HWT), and had on-site meeting with fishermen for the prevention of damages.

On August 13, NIFS had a meaningful time to hear a lecture under the theme of “Ocean Action’s Supercycle“, providing its staff a chance to look at the global trends in protection of the marine environment against climate change and sustainable utilization, then discussion on Ocean Action that should be sought for followed.

On August 12, the National Institute of Fisheries Science (NIFS) signed a MOU with the Busan University of Foreign Studies (BUFS), laying a foundation for mutual cooperation. Taking the MOU, NIFS and BUFS agreed on promoting mutually beneficial development by embracing the expertise of each side.

On August 1, an award ceremony took place on the fourth floor of NIFS headquarters to celebrate the selection of NIFS as the top-rated organization (‘S’ grade) this year by the Korean Executive Agency’s Evaluation. In the ceremony, the award was presented to the staff who made a contribution to the selection.

On July 23, NIFS visited the aqua farms in Yeosu, Jeollanam-do, where they suffered the damage by high water temperature (HWT) last year, to check the status quo and conducted site-oriented consulting. While listening to the difficulties in the fields from the farmers, NIFS provided advice on aquaculture techniques.

On July 22, NIFS hosted a ceremony in the meeting room on the fourth floor of its headquarters to mark the book donation (414 books relevant to oceans and fisheries) by the former President Park Ju-seok (the 22nd President of NIFS).

To brace for high water temperature (HWT), NIFS visited the inland aquafarms located in Geoje-si, Gyeongsangnam-do on July 16, conducting on-site inspections and having a meeting with farmers.

On July 11, NIFS hosted the meeting of industry-public-institute cooperative association in the first half of this year for another leap forward of abalone industry. In the meeting, the participants evaluated the current status of implementation and saw eye to eye to strengthen the cooperation for sustainable development of abalone industry.
