On August 23, president of NIFS visited cage culture farms in Wan-do which experienced mass mortality of abalone. He had a meeting with farmers with serious financial loss and cheered them up by discussing ways to prevent and control the mortality. 

President and senior leadership of the National Institute of Environmental Research visited NIFS on August 12, and discussed ways for future cooperation.

The newly appointed Japanese consulate-general in Korea visited NIFS on August 11 and had a talk with the president of NIFS.

NIFS, in cooperationwith the Korea Hydrographic and Oceanographic Agency and the Korea National Maritime Museum, conducted a clean beach campaign at Gwangalli Beach. Participants collected garbage and provided people with finger-printing of endangered marine animals to encourage them to join the effort to protect them. 

NIFS will help to serve healthy seafood in school meals for elementary and middle schools throughout Busan. As a trigger of the effort, NIFS provided fishy smell-free seafood dishes to students in Theresa Girls High School on July 18 and received their feedback about them.

NIFS held a youth-customized seafood show at Jagalchi Fish Market on July 11 with the participation of 100 people from industries and schools including students. The show aimed to promote seafood consumption among adolescents by developing technology that removes fishy smell from seafood.

Three NIFS projects were included in 100 excellent achievements of national R&D. This is a remarkable accomplishment as 3 out of 4 selected projects in oceans and fisheries sector belong to NIFS. Three NIFS scientists-Drs. Kang, Jungha, Kim,Daejung and Nam, Bohye- attended the Certificate Award Ceremony held in Gwacheon National Science Museum on July 7, 2016.

Minister Kim,Youngseok of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries visited the Jeju Fisheries Research Institute with president Kang, Joonsuk of NIFS to see the status of blue fin tuna farming and have a meeting with responsible researchers.

NIFS held a workshop to build up capability of public relations specialists on June 30 with the participation of members in charge of the job from the headquarters and local offices.

NIFS held a first half-year retirementceremony on June 30. All the members of NIFS wished that the retirees would start another great chapter in their life.
