Mr. Choi Yong-seok, the president of NIFS visited abalone and flounder farms located in Wando County, South Jeolla Province, to inspect the preparation for high water temperature and ask a thorough prior preparation.
In preparation for high water temperature, NIFS had a meeting at the Headquarters on July 3 for the final check of regional water temperature monitoring and support measures.
NIFS participated in the ‘2025 Korea Seafood Show: K-seafood World Festival on Gastronomy Tourism’ held for three days from July 1 to 3 on the first floor of COEX in Seoul. At the Show, NIFS installed its booth for the exhibition of its latest research achievements and had a time to communicate with the public.
On June 26, NIFS hosted the Korea-Japan symposium for the advancement of research on cetaceans in the North Western pacific. At the symposium, the participants saw eye to eye on exploring measures for future cooperation including research data exchanges, joint analysis, etc.
On June 25, NIFS hosted a joint symposium with the Pukyong National University on Marine and Fisheries Research, agreeing to further strengthening mutual cooperation between the two bodies.
On June 17-20, NIFS hosted the 25th plenary meeting of International Scientific Committee for Tuna and Tuna-like Species in the North Pacific Ocean (ISC) in Busan. At the meeting, measures for stock management and to strengthen further cooperation were discussed based on the results of scientific research on Pacific bluefin tuna.
On June 12, NIFS visited eco-friendly shrimp farms in Gangwha county, Incheon and had an on-site meeting, where the President Choi Yong-seok of NIFS and other stakeholders shared the view that there is the need to strengthen on-site research for enhancing competitiveness of shrimp farming.
Korea Bio-Safety Conference 2025 was held in Geoje on June 12-13. The National Institute of Fisheries Science(NIFS) and other four organizations at the national level including the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency(KDCA) and the Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency(APQA), jointly hosted the conference with the presence of biosafety experts from a wide range of fields such as humans, animals, aquatic animals, wild animals, plants, etc.
On June 4, NIFS and LG Electronics Kitchen Solution R&D Lab signed a MOU for the develeopment of fisheries food-tech as well as sustainable seafood industry.
Today (Tuesday, May 27) at the Seaweed Research Institute of NIFS, President of NIFS Choi Yong-seok and CEO Chirs Ninness of ASC of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the aim of producing eco-friendly cultured fisheries products and developing fisheries industry.
