NIFS had a performance briefing on the prevention of olive flounder mass mortality at Jeju Fisheries Research Institute on February 4, 2016. The TF team reported the result of their work and discussed the future plan.   

President of NIFS participated in the opening ceremony of 2016 Drone Show held at BEXCO Haeundae on January 28 to review the possibility of drone utilization for oceans and fisheries.

With the participation of national and provincial fisheries institutes, NIFS held a working group meeting on January 26 to develop and facilitate collaborative research projects for fisheries resources enhancement.

The Minister of Oceans and Fisheries visited NIFS on January 22, 2016. He received a briefing on the works being done at NIFS and emphasized the role of NIFS, as a global leader, to grow fisheries as a future industry.

NIFS organized a research vessel crew workshop at Dongbusan Tourist Hotel on January 20-22, 2016. Main events included newcomer’s greeting, talks with research divisions, training on how to survive or rescue in a disaster at sea and job training.

The West Sea Fisheries Research Institute of NIFS had a harvest event of cultured eco-friendly shrimp on January 18,2015 with about 50 participants of fish farmers, trainees for start-up and seed producers.   

NIFS had a meeting to discuss ways to industrialize copper alloy nets on February 16, 2016. The participants reported the research progress on how to apply them in the field and discussed how to put them into actual use.

NIFS held a meeting with sea squirt farmers not only to address their difficulties but also to stabilize the industry on February 17, 2016.

With participation of 30 researchers, NIFS held a ritual for sacrificed animals for scientific researches on February 22, 2016.

The Vice Minister of Oceans and Fisheries visited NIFS on February 23, 2016. He received a briefing on the works being done at NIFS. He also attended the meeting to discuss policies for climate change and fisheries resources management. He finished his agenda by touring the eel research building.
