On September 2, NIFS had a meeting to resolve to put Safety and Health into practice with reports and education relevant after giving assignment letters to the supervisors in the second half of 2024.
NIFS will redouble its efforts to foster a sense of safety and expand the organizational culture for safety.
On August 21, Minister Kang, Do-hyung of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries visited NIFS to inspect the current state of fisheries disasters including high water temperature, harmful algal bloom, jellyfish, etc. The Minister also encouraged the members of disaster control unit and appreciated for their hard work to minimize fisheries damage.
On August 19, the President of NIFS (Mr. Choi, Yong-seok) visited the jellyfish collection sites in Pohang. The president inspected the sites and heard the difficulties in the field.
On August 13, to overhaul the preparation for high water temperature, the president of NIFS (Mr. Choi, Yong-seok) visited the cage farms in Tongyeong to conduct site-inspections and heard difficulties in the field.
On August 9, NIFS and the Happy Life & Beauty co., Ltd. signed a MOU on launching a Yongdashima (dragon kelp) based products and its industrialization.
On July 25, the National Institue of Fisheries Science (NIFS) and the Korea Institute of Ocean Science & Technology (KIOST) signed a MOU on the development of ocean science and technology, and marine industry. In the MOU ceremony, the two institutes agreed to strengthen mutual cooperation in the research to solve pending issues.
On July 24, NIFS had an on-site meeting with the members of the Korea Trout Farmer's Association to discuss the current issues and difficulties in raising trouts and explore the solutions.
NIFS held the symposium on strategies for the future of East Coast fishery industry in Gangneung on July 23. In the symposium, the participants saw eye to eye with each other about continuing research that is able to assist the industry while actively communuicating with people on site.
On July 18-19, President CHOI, Yong-seok of NIFS visited the fish farms in Goheung and Yeosu of Jeollanam-do for the site inspection in order to preemptively brace for high water temperature. The President also met with the persons involved, hearing difficulties from them on his site visit to fish farms within the regions.
The National Institute of Fisheries Science(NIFS) and the Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency(APQA) were designated as the WOAH Collaborating Centres distributing Diagnostic Reference Materials. To celebrate the designation, an international workshop with a ceremony was held at Sejong Convention Center on July 4 with the presence of distinguished guests from in and out of the country.
