On June 21, Minister Kang Do-Hyung of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries visited NIFS headquarters, hearing reports on the current status of research and projects. The Minister also visitied the situation room for disaster response and eel aquaculture building, to inspect the research sites and encourage researchers.

On June 5th, the National Institute of Fisheries Science (NIFS) and the National Institute of Environmental Research (NIER) signed the MOU on sustainable marine environment management, and agreed on joint research and cooperation, exchanges of researchers, etc.

NIFS had succeeded in seafood commercialization: grilled fish without fishy smell. It is the fruit of continuous cooperation between NIFS and Pulmuone Institute of Technology after the two institutes signing the MOU last year.

On May 22, NIFS had the 2024 online and offline workshop for all members at its headquarters to strengthen research capacity and organisational vitality.

NIFS participated in the 19th Seoul Seafood Show at COEX Hall in the center of Seoul for three days from May 15th to 17th, 2024 under the theme of 'Blue Food-Tech: Innovation and Challenge of K-Seafood.' At the Show, NIFS established its booth to promote the latest research achievements.

On May 14, NIFS inaugurated a consultative council having industry, public, and academia for the thrive of abalone industry. It aims to address pending issues with the participation of experts in each sector.

On May 8, NIFS had an inauguration ceremony of Tamgu 8 (R/V: Research Vessel) mounted with the eco-friendly hybrid propulsion device and 12 advanced research equipment at the Incheon International Ferry Terminal, and marked a beginning of full-fledged fisheries resources research.

The NIFS oceans and fisheries disasters R&D forum was held on May 7 and 8 two-day meeting with the presence of experts from diverse fields. In the meeting, the experts exchanged their research achievements and had a time for training to strengthen on-site response capacity.

On May 2, the National Institute of Fisheries Science (NIFS) and the National Institute of Meteorological Sciences (NIMS) signed MOU, and agreed to advance climate change forecasting and monitoring by actively utilizing the expertise and research capacity from both institutes.

NIFS hosted a on-site discussion in Jeju Island on May 2 to respond to the mortality of cultured olive flounder, and saw eye to eye to push ahead with research on the solution for the mortality based on continuous communication with the culture sites.
